The Wicked Orchard by Sidra Owens

I am familiar with the Deacons for Defense, although it has been awhile. And although during the Civil Rights Movement, MLK, Jr. was all for civil disobedience for protesting; it's a different story altogether when it comes to protecting your life, your home and the lives of your loved ones.

I am in favor of Black people forming their own second amendment groups, but there is a huge caveat; something that must be understood before such an endeavor is embarked upon. The fear of Black people, especially Black men, held by White people both overt and implicit, is thick and palpable. If Black people did create their second amendment groups for protection, the fear was escalate exponentially to a fever pitch.

Not to say that Black people should shun exercising their rights as citizens for the sake of White comfort, but the repercussions should be weighed, considered and prepared for. It's called self-preservation, and Black people have to exercise their sense of self-preservation in every facet of life, in order to survive these United States.
