I read an article by Mira D. Dush entitled, “The Brutal Truth About Writing on Medium.” After reading it, I was struck by the truth in it. It made me take a moment to reflect on my own relationship with this platform known as Medium.

It was 2017 when we met. I had just finished self-publishing my first novel, “A Haven Amidst Perdition.” I was incredibly proud of my accomplishment (And I still am). I was floating on cloud nine; yet (Not sure what’s wrong with cloud one through eight, but that’s neither here nor there) I was firmly grounded in reality. I didn’t know about KDP, which I think was CreateSpace at the time. I went with a vanity press and had to come out of pocket to publish my novel, but I did it. But what I could not do was pay for marketing.

I work a nine to five type job every day, so you can guess how my life is set up. There isn’t a lot of extra money. And I knew that if I wanted to garner any attention concerning what I’d written, I was going to have to use social media. But I’m one of those people who would prefer to write the novel and leave the promotion for someone else, but I don’t have it like that, so I decided to start a blog on WordPress.

I figured it out and got it done. And I enjoyed it. A few people here and there read my blog posts that were somewhat naïve and…
