Having a talent for writing is a difficult talent to have.

It isn’t like having a talent to do hair or nails.

It’s not like being able to sing, dance or cook.

People will pay money upfront and easily to fill their bellies, or to get their hair and nails done.

Things like this are very tangible commodities.

But when you’re a writer, it’s very different.

You can’t leave the house broke as a writer and come back home with cash in your pocket.

As a writer, and a writer with talent mind you, your commodities are woven from ideas and emotions.

Thinking and feeling.

Let’s face it, finding people who think, therefore they read, is getting harder to come by.

So, I must say it fills me with a profound level of anger, when I see instances of writers getting taken advantage of; especially since writing isn’t easy. It takes time and an investment of the writer’s soul if they want to create something of value.

Last year, I learned of a trend where readers would buy an e-book on Amazon and then, after reading it, return it for a refund.

This is completely unacceptable.

If you want to read a book for free, go to the fucking library. That’s what it’s there for. That would be akin to getting your nails done to match your dress for a date later that day. Going on the date. Having a great time, and then returning to the nail salon and saying, “Hey, I returned the dress that match this nail color, so I can I get my money back?”

That is some bullshit.

And not only would you get cussed out, but you might get slapped.

There are many independently published authors out there, and for those of you who are succeeding at that, I applaud you, because it isn’t easy.

But to have someone read the fruits of your mental, physical, and emotional labor from cover-to-cover, and then ask for a refund and receive it, is some booty ass, conservative Republican sounding shit.
