Regular women aren’t sexy. It may seem a little lame to start off my commentary with the title of the article, but the words are so true.
I was reading an article here on Medium talking about the movie “Aliens”. (Of course, I can’t find it again. My apologies to the writer.) While I was reading it, I suddenly recalled the scene, when Ripley woke up from cryo-sleep. The lid lifted, and she opened her eyes, eventually swinging her feet over the side and sitting up. She coughed a little, she was groggy and once she got to her feet…
I recently started a podcast that one could say will run hand-in-hand with my Medium posts. Often, topics are so rich that they can be approached in one way verbally and in a completely different way, once written. When I post the link to my podcasts, I will also be adding a transcript of the first half with the second half devoted to excerpts of my fiction. I hope you all enjoy.
Reality and Fictions EP1
Good evening, and I want to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Sidra Owens and I want to welcome…
Sometimes people have to examine history to know that they are not being fed. Back in the day, if you asked black people, who grew up poor, if they knew they were poor, many would say no. Because everyone lived the same way. You have to know it's wrong to want to right and history can help with that.
You're right there will always be racist and people will truly benefit when they can stop undercutting each other, while other watch us squabble over the scraps.
…nd the opinions of their electorate on crucial issues. So far, the system appears to be very sound. However, Australia has a ‘party political system’, meaning that the parties are very powerful and tend to coerce the members into voting according to the party line. The fact that Australia has such a collective notion of party politics is a huge irony, considering…

This reminds me of my hypothesis I call the merry-go-round in Washington D.C. Good people with good intentions and strong desire to help their constituents get elected and go to D.C. They step onto the merry-go-round and they hold on for dear life. But the longer the stay on, the faster it spins and the looser their grip becomes. Before you know it, they have been flung off the merry-go-round into the swamp, with a bank account full of cash, angry constituents at the gates and no idea what the hell happen. And when they look back the only one still holding on is Bernie Sanders.
So, laundering isn’t a term people use every day. People launder clothes, right? You know, wash clothes. Folks wash clothes every day, but that generally isn’t where you hear the term laundering.
We usually hear it on TV shows and movies. Some bad guy is using a legit business as a front to launder their blood money or drug money or any money obtained from illicit deeds.
Now, the title should make more sense. Right, because isn’t that what’s going on right now. …
I started with Medium back in 2017, and thoroughly enjoyed the reading the commentary of other content creators and writing for the platform.
Then I decided that I wanted to go back to school. And I quickly realized that despite my best effort, I cannot divide my brain power between writing for Medium, writing fiction and writing for school and still maintain my employment, my obligations to my family and stay sane. So… I decided to put Medium and fiction on the back burner until I finished with school.
Now that I am done with academia for the moment, I’m…
Hope is irrational.
Many of us live our lives in hope of something.
Hoping to get that new job.
Hoping that our children are safe.
Hoping that we win the lottery.
But no matter how irrational hope is, we cling to it. We cling to it because sometimes, it’s the only thing we have left.
I am a practical person. And for the past twenty years, the political climate in the United States has left me rational and hopeless. Election after election, where even the shining aspirations of Black people, who sacrificed their livelihoods and their lives don’t seem to…
I’m going to reach back to an article I wrote back in February of 2018, entitled, “Our Government Does Not Want Us To Survive.” It was all about the NRA and how they dictate guns laws in this country, and how complicit our governing body is in the death of 1000's of men women and children at the hands of gun violence. I get into some other issues to but the title frames it perfectly.
In comparison to other articles, this one didn’t do well. Hell, you can’t knock it out of the park every time.
Or maybe people thought…
A true case of art imitates life or reality is truer than fiction. Go with whatever adage tickles your fancy.
Movie: Shark kills girl, who decides to go swimming alone, at night, into deep water (Granted, it isn’t smart, but I’m sure it happens every day).
Reality: Virus kills people (‘Nuff said).
Movie: Mayor doesn’t care. The Mayor of Amityville didn’t give a rat’s ass who got eaten by the great white as long as the beaches were open for Fourth of July.
Reality: President doesn’t care. The Asshole-in-Chief could give two shits about people dying of Covid-19 in this…
There is a lot going on in the United States.
There is Trump as always, being the bigoted, racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, unintelligent, narcissistic dick that he is.
There is the Republican Party, who are greedy, corporatist, xenophobic, conservative capitalists, who have been allowed to run amok.
There is the Democratic Party, who are greedy, corporatist, xenophobic, conservative capitalists, who feign progressive humanism.
There are the militarized police, who are deputized thugs. The only true thugs in this country.
Institutional racism. That’s a whole other post.
Karens. Beckys. That’s a whole other post, as well.
